Joanne Smith, freelance writer and excessive tea drinker.
Prior to starting Black and White Copy in 2011, I worked in the tertiary sector in HR, projects and administration. Whilst working, I also completed a BA in Communications and PhD in Cultural Studies.
When I started freelancing, I had little clue about business, networking or industry but I did know how to write things down rather well and correct things which weren’t written down well. It’s been a big learning curve, but since 2011, I have developed Black and White Copy to provide a reliable and professional service to local businesses in written work as well as editing and proofreading.
For a freelancer, my professional growth comes from personal growth and I am constantly seeking new learning and challenges in writing and editing, including opportunities for article publication and gaining editing accreditation.
I work from a home office in the northern suburbs of Perth. You’ll usually finding me at my desk with a cuppa, headphones and my office manager, Mia. She keeps me company, oversees productivity and greets clients and guests. Mia is a cat.
